TRC has developed a robust relationship with educators, schools, and youth leaders to realize the power and potential of Restorative Justice within the educational arena. Restorative Justice is an opportunity to learn and grow in the educational community.

TRC teaches to vest Restorative Justice within educational institutions; a broader landscape for the work is required to create a healthy ecosystem. We work to help implement the elements of a Restorative Justice Landscape:

  • Procedural Justice (Fairness, Transparency, Respect, Voice)

  • De-escalation (tools and skills)

  • Stress Management (self-assessment to develop individual understanding)

  • Effective Communication (clarity and user-friendly)

  • Restorative Justice Circles (community circles, conflict, post-suspension)

TRC has facilitated the revision of School Codes of Conduct, worked with student services/discipline offices, and extended Restorative Justice training to entire school communities (including youth leaders). Our work has shown the potential of Restorative Justice to build a healthy school community.

Members of The Restorative Center have led workshops, training and lectures about TRC’s restorative justice model at Southern University Law Center, Yale Law School, CUNY School of Law, Columbia University, Mount Saint Mary College, and many other higher education institutions. TRC team members published Reclaiming Restorative Justice: An Alternate Paradigm for Justice in the CUNY Law Review, as well as The Newburgh Model of Community Circles Essays and Workbook, a resource to support our restorative justice training.
